Why I Film For Youtube

In 2016 a friend of mine who is a pretty big techy and had young kids at the time, came to me and said my kids love coming to your place because they always learn something.  He said, since you don't have children of your own, who are you going to pass along all your info and wisdom to?

I never really thought about it too much.  He said I should start a Youtube page and post videos of me working on things and passing along all my skills to others.

Needless to say, here we are years later and numerous videos now posted, I have acquired quite a following of folks around the globe and the response has been amazing.

I started out with a simple Gopro my wife got me, a tripod purchased at a garage sale, and waterproof covering which made it impossible to record any decent audio.  I also had to use my phone app to see what the camera was looking at or everything would be out of frame.  I made it work and started shooting whatever I could.

From there I started with numerous online purchases from China for accessories and even a corded lapel mic. which made it nearly impossible to walk around freely due to the fact I had to run the cable up my sleeve.

I have since upgraded my Gopro.  I now use a Gopro 9 which is fully water proof and has amazing mic capabilities.  The touch screen with front and back viewing is very helpful while Vlogging and so compact I can take it almost anywhere.  It is almost indestructible as you can see on one of my videos when I lost in the mud and drove over it 5 times inadvertently.  I use it pretty exclusively but there are still times when I need to shoot something and my phone is a good alternate.  My smart phone takes pretty amazing video and sound also.

The next thing I needed to make all this happen was film editing software and a computer to run it.  I made the plunge on a black Friday sale and bought a gaming laptop as it has an upgraded video and graphics card.  Couple this with the editing software of you choice and you are on your way to posting videos.

Starting a Youtube page was pretty easy and locking down a URL for a webpage is pretty straight forward also.  There are tons of options to choose from and hosting platforms so it's all up to the user on what they like and feel comfortable operating. So now that this is all done and ready it's just a matter of cranking out content which for myself having a fulltime job can sometimes be a chore finding the time but you work it into your schedule.

So now that you've got this far don't forget to subscribe to my Youtube page and watch all my latest videos from hunting/fishing, workshop projects and outdoor skills.  Videos are uploaded regularly.
